Summer Outbound Exchange Programs
4-H youth have an opportunity to spend 4 - 8 weeks abroad during the summer learning about another culture through the homestay experience.
Since 1972, more than 7,000 American teens have made visited Japan. In 2006, we sent our first delegation to Finland
and since then, we've added outbound programs to Costa Rica, Norway, and Australia. Japan-bound
delegates may extend their trip for an additional three weeks in Tokyo to participate in the Nihongo language program.
Cost varies according to the destination and the state from which the 4-H youth is traveling. Trip fees include airfare, pre-trip orientations and conference calls, medical insurance, transportation, lodging and meals in their host country, and adult chaperones who accompany youths during travel to and from the host country.
Chaperones will remain in the host country for the duration of the homestay, offering support for the youth. Sponsoring organizations in the host country may offer additional program enhancements, such as summer camps or group excursions, the cost of which is included in the program fees.
